Celebrating with an
Adoption Baby Shower

Having an adoption baby shower for an adopted child and their adoptive parents is a wonderful idea, but you will need to alter the shower so that it's not quite the same as a baby shower you would have for a mother and her biological baby.

The celebration should be about showing the child exactly how excited everyone is to have this new child in the family.

The key is to keep the shower as normal as possible and treat the couple and the child the same as you would if it was their natural child. Games can still be played and advice given to the new parents. The only difference is how the couple got their new bundle of joy.

Given that it is an adoption, every effort should be made to not differentiate a child through adoption versus natural means.

An Adoption Shower For Older Child

Rather than giving baby gifts, friends and family can purchase toys or other items appropriate for the child’s age. You’ll still want to have a cake and other refreshments, however, you may not want to have the same type of baby shower games for the older kids celebration that you would for a baby.

You could try some
games that older children can join in on, or instead you could skip the games and focus on giving everyone a chance to mingle and be introduced to your new child. Especially if the baby shower includes couples.

Also, it is best to keep the guest list small so your child does not feel overwhelmed.

An Adoption Shower for Infants

Obviously, the baby is going to be an important part of your life. When you have an Adoption Baby Shower or any other Type of Baby Shower, you're going to be getting all of the items you need for your home, your nursery, and your growing infant.

But the shower is more than just a time for gifts and games. It's also a time for your family to meet and bond with the newest addition who may not be related by blood but who is still going to be loved just as much as if he or she was.
