Adoption Gift Ideas
for Infants and Older Children

When you are trying to come up with adoption gift ideas, often times people wonder if it is appropriate to give a gift to the adopted child and the parents separately or one bigger gift together.

You could go either route. Of course the kids will love getting gifts such as toys, clothes or whatever, and it is certainly appreciated.

Our girls already really felt special and a part of the family. But to make it even better we also received some very nice picture frames so that we could put our new family portraits in them.

Adoption Gift Ideas for Babies

* A life book and information about babies country of origin.
* A subscription to Adoptive Families Magazine.
* A gift certificate to Target or someplace. Gift certificates are pretty handy for things like formula, diapers and wipes as they are in high demand for new parents!
* Something personalized . It will make everyone feel like the new baby is 100% part of the family!
* Picture frame, include a picture of the new family if you have one.
* If they don’t already have one an exersaucer, swing, playpen, themometer…., the usual baby stuff.

Adoption Gift Ideas for Older Children

* A gift card from an appropriate store, so that everyone can go shopping as a family.
* A pass for a family outing…roller skating, ....zoo, circus, amusement park.... museum, campgrounds, water park.
* Movie passes or dinner gift certificate.
* Picture frame, include a picture of the new family if you have one

*Among other things, some additional ideas are books, toys, games, DVD’s, whether they are kids shows or family shows that can be watched together. Anything age appropriate and something they can use.

Sometimes it is best to check with the adoptive parents of the child when it comes to gifts, they may still need the basic necessities that any baby or child requires.

One of the best gifts of all for an adoptee and their family is the loving support of friends and family. Educate yourself on adoption. There is an "adoption language" that most are not prepared for. The do's and don'ts, on what to say and "how" to say it. If you have children, educate them as well.
