Adoption Grants

Can anyone get adoption grants?

Isn’t it sad that so many kids need families, but because of the high fees and all the paperwork and so on it can be so difficult. I know lots of people who can afford to raise a child in a wonderful life, but they don’t have the $20,000 - $30,000 up front necessary to bring the child home.

If this is the case, you may want to consider getting a grant. Any grant is a form of financial aid that does not have to be repaid, this is what makes this offer more appealing than loans, of course. However, because so many people are applying for grants to adopt a child, it is just not possible for everyone to get approved, even though you may fit all of the criteria.

However, on the other side of the coin, what do you have to lose, there is just as much chance that you will be approved as many do, and so it is worth your time and energy to pursue this option.

It will probably be best if you already have your home study completed before approaching a grant organization, and then they will know that you are serious about adopting and may consider you more favorably.

When seeking an adoption grant, organization it will require that you do extensive research. Many will have their own grant requirements along with some common stipulations from many programs. Things they may look into are; how serious are you about adopting, how financially needy are you.

They will then determine how much you will be awarded depending on the child you are adopting. Whether they are special needs, will they require medical attention, age of the child, are there siblings and so forth.

Also watch for such things as; religious affiliation or the adoption situation. Pay special attention to when they process and review grant applications. Many have deadlines, only reviewing applications at certain times of the year.

There are several organizations in Canada and the USA that offer grants and other adoption financing for adopting parents.

These range from $2,000 to $10,000, and are usually tied to income levels of adopting parents.

Many grants will not completely cover all of the adoption costs, but it can certainly help.
