Adoption Poems for Adoptive Parents

If you do any scrapbooking or have a life book of your adopted child, here are some adoption poems which you just may want to include in your memorbillia.

You will see that many of the poems have unknown authors and some may be missing a title, but you could always add a title that you feel best suits the poem.

You may choose to print out one poem in particular for your personal use. Just click at the end of it and it will go to a page of it's own.

Miracle

You first came to us in an envelope

With letters, forms and such

Just two tiny little pictures

With nothing warm to touch.

You grew in our imagination

In our hearts and in our minds.

You brought us greater joy

Than we ever thought we’d find.

A phone call started labor pains

Which lasted ’til we met

Strangers brought together

A day we won’t forget.

You bloomed as you were planned

In our hearts, our lives, our home.

Our child of chance, of plan, of will

You’re now our very own.....

The Day We Adopted You

If we had it to do over again
Adoption is what we'd choose
We got more than we had hoped for
The day we adopted you

For you have given us more in life
Than we could ever want or need
You made our house into a home
And made our family complete

We love you more than life itself
for all the things you say and do
And if we had it to do over again
You'd be the only one we'd choose.....

Your Adoption

On the day you were adopted
You were placed in our lives
And born into our hearts
In a very special way.

We played for you,
We dreamed of you,
We prepared for you,
We waited for you.

And when we finally held you
For the very first time
It felt like you’d
Belonged to us
Forever.....

To You, Our Adopted Son

Adoption is part of God's original plan,
It's not an idea particular to man.
We're all adopted children.
Adoption is God's way of leaving
His heavenly door open.

He first gave us life,
He's parent to all.
Before He made you,
He gave us a call.

He said, "Soon a child will be born,
Without you this child will grow up forlorn."
We didn't understand at first the magnificent love
in our hearts that burst.

As days merged with years,
We shared your happiness and dried your tears.
He gave us wisdom and taught us to see,
that His most precious gifts are free.

We've shared so many rainbows and rains,
And even though our blood doesn't run in your veins,
we want you to know that from the moment
we answered His decree,

You captured our hearts for all eternity.
Our love for you can only be measured
by the expanse of the sky
and the depth of the sea.....

A half a world away
Sometimes it seems we’re so far apart
But a half a world away
Is not too far for a journey of there heart

My little one, my bundle of joy
My precious son, my baby boy
I know your waiting too

A half a world away
Achild waits for a family of his own
While a half a world away
Afamily waits to come bring him home

My little one, my bundle of joy
I’m whispering a prayer
My presious son, my baby boy
I hope to soon be there

I hope that we
Will no longer be
A half a world away.....

Longing for a child to love,

I’d wish upon the stars above.

In my heart I always knew,

A part of me was meant for you.

I think how happy we will be,

Once I adopt you, and you adopt me.

I dream of all the joy you’ll bring,

Imagining even the littlest things.

The way it will feel to hold you tight,

And tuck you in every night
The drawings on the refrigerator door,

And childhood toys across the floor.

The favorite stories read again and again,

And hours of games with make-believe friends.

The day you took my outstretched hand,

A journey ended, but our lives began.

Still mesmerized by your sweet face,

Still warmed inside by our first embrace.

I promised to give you a happy home,

And a loving family all your own.

A house you’ve now made complete,

With laughter, smiles, and tiny feet

A parent is one who guides the way,

Know I will be there everyday.

Rest easy as each night you sleep,

A lifetime of love is yours to keep.

Longing for a child to love,

I’d wish upon the stars above.

In my heart I always knew,

A part of me belonged to you.....

Our Child!

~
With anxious hearts and open arms,

we sought you everywhere.

You, dear child, are a gift from God,

The answer to our prayer.

No matter whether birth or choice,

A home is blessed from above.

When caring parents claim their child,

A family is formed by love.....

Our Children

Our children are not ours because they share our genes...
they are ours because we have had the audacity to envision them.
That, at the end of the day...or long sleepless night,
is how love really works.....

Family Tree

We've added to our family tree,
a stronger one to make...
A child from another plant,
has become our new namesake.

Just as a limb is grafted
from one tree to another...
It alters and improves the plant,
making it uniquely, like no other.

Our family tree has been improved,
adoption made this so...
For love, much more than bloodlines,
makes us thrive and grow.

We chose to share our life and love,
and all the joys to come...
Our "Family Tree" has blossomed,
with the arrival of our son.....

The Poem

Once upon a time I held a child,
whose eyes did not match mine.
Its hair a different color,
its smile was just divine.
This child was not born
from my womb,
but given by another,
For me to love and give a home,
to one day call me Mother.
No greater gift
will I receive
or cherish more than this.
Thank you Lord
with all my heart
for granting me my wish".....

Legacy of an Adopted Child

Once there were two women,
who never knew each other.
One you do not remember,
the other you call mother.

Two different lives,
shaped to make your one...
One became your guiding star,
the other became your sun.

The first gave you life and
the second taught you to live it.
The first gave you a need for love,
and the second was there to give it.

One gave you a nationality,
the other gave you a name.
One gave you a seed of talent,
the other gave you an aim.

One gave you emotions,
the other calmed your fears.
One saw your first sweet smile,
the other dried your tears.

One gave you up ...
that's all she could do.
The other prayed for a child
and God led her straight to you.

And now you ask me,
through your fears,
the age old question
unanswered throughout the years...

Heredity or environment,
which are you the product of?
Neither, my darling neither.
Just two different kinds of love.....

We said

We’re starting on a second adoption

They said

So soon?
Is that wise?

- but they didn’t know

you were waiting for us…

We said

This time we want a boy

They said

Girls are easier to raise

- but they didn’t know

you were waiting for us…

We said

We want a toddler

They said
It’s better to adopt an infant

- but they didn’t know

you were waiting for us…

They said

But how can you afford to?

We said

But how can we afford *not* to,

- since we know

you are waiting for us…

Now we need only find out who-

and where-

you are

So that you

and we

need wait no more.....

An Adopted Child Is Made Up Of....

An Adopted Child is made up of…

Yesterday’s Memories

We didn’t know you when your life began.

But, through God’s grace we were brought together.

We treasured the opportunity to bring you into our world.

We knew you were meant to be ours and fell in love instantly.

An Adopted Child is made up of…

Today’s Love

We laugh. We talk. We cry. We share. We love.

Although we had to learn about each other.

We truly have become a family.

As your parents, we have fond memories of the child that came to us.

And we look forward to the person you are becoming.

An Adopted Child is made up of…

Tomorrow’s Dreams

We proudly watch as you learn to make your way.

You will take all the experiences you’ve had in your life

And create the fondation on which your dreams will stand.

Everyday you become wiser.
Everyday you are stronger.

We pray that life will be good to you.
And, always remember,

We thank God each day for bringing you to our family.....

~My Greatest Gift~

by Michelle (Fresno CA)

I know I didn’t birth you
or get to choose your name,
but the love so deep within my soul
is truly all the same.

God birthed within my spirit
the greatest gift on Earth
a mother’s love for her son
regardless of the birth.

I’ve always had a sadness
Because I missed that special day
but God in His loving mercy
let me see your new birth anyway.

The miracle He did in you
when He saved you from Satan’s lies
I got to sit and watch it happen
before my very eyes!

I wasn’t there for your first birth
as I said before
but your second birth I certainly was
and could never ask for more!

I loved you then, I love you now
and forever it will be
because you’re my son, my first born son
whom God made just for me!

~~Love, Your Mother~~.....

What I Got....

by Michelle (Fresno, CA)

What I Got…..

I didn’t get to feel you move or hear your heartbeat
I didn’t get to kiss your little forehead, hands or feet
I didn’t get to lay upon that table in great pain
I didn’t get to sign the papers or even pick your name
I didn’t get to bottle feed or give you your first bath
I didn’t get to see your first step or hear your lil laugh.

But what I got when you were ten made up for it all
I got to see you ride your skateboard and helped you when you’d fall
I got to see you sing the 50 states in Mrs. Johnson’s class
I got to see you run and play with Niko through the grass
I got to see how well you drew on paper, walls and more
I got to see your big blue eyes when you’d walk on through the door.

Now I get to watch as you make me proud to be
The mother who has always known we were meant to be
I get to watch you read and pray and smile so freely
I get to watch you as you become the man you’ve longed to be
I get to watch you build your strength in more ways than one
I get to watch you walk with God and see the wonders He has done
But what I get the most of all aren’t memories from the past
But a love so deep within my soul that will forever and ever last!

I love you son!12-29-10
