Adult Adoption

by Michelle
(Fresno, CA)

My son is 21 years old and on February 4, 2011 he will legally be mine. After years of obstacles and life's mishaps adoption was always put to the side. Though our hearts always longed for it, it wasn't until recently we discovered it was still possible!

The first thing I did was gather as much information on the internet. Then I went to our local Superior Court House to receive free counsel from the help desk.

It was there that I found out three simple forms that needed to be made by me on my computer, filled out and brought back to be filed. I did that within an hour (it was that easy!) Filed it with the courts, paid $20 and now we just wait for the hearing.

The forms that are needed can often be found on Microsoft Word, as well as the "pleading" paper that it must be printed on. If you and/or your child are married an additional form will be needed (also found on MW), so in total four forms.

Those forms include name changes, new birth certificates, everything! Easy forms I must add! Much, much easier than what I though AND way easier than when they are minors!

If you are contemplating adult adoption don't let the paperwork hold you back or think you have to have an attorney. It's so easy you can do it yourself!! The cost is minimal--in California, $20!

Where do you get the forms for the adult adoption in California?

Hi,

To get forms for adult adoption in California first try your local Child Services. OR you could google "adult adoption forms" I know there are a couple of websites who provide them online. They will cost you, I don't know enough about them to actually refer anyone in particular though.

This is wonderful Michelle, and will be very helpful to anyone considering adult adoption. I will add the link from this page onto my "Adult Adoption" page.

I am sure many will be grateful for this knowledge.

God Bless!
