Need Some Child Behavior Advice
Congratulations! You now have your new addition to the family. Whether it’s your first adopted child or you already have children of your own or previously adopted children, chances are you might need some parenting advice through some of the tough times. James Lehman, MSW, Behavioral Therapist and Creator of The Total Transformation® Program for Parents addresses any child behavior problem in young children and teens: defiance, back talk, lying, disrespect, acting out in school, homework struggles, refusal to get out of bed or do chores, tantrums, cursing, substance abuse, lack of motivation and abusive behavior. About James LehmanJames Lehman was abandoned in a basement at age two by alcoholic parents who were unable to care for him. He was found and adopted, but quickly developed oppositional, defiant behavior as a young child. By age 14, he was living on the streets of New York City and falling into a life of alcoholism, drug abuse and crime. James had spent nearly seven years in prison when a judge sentenced him to an accountability based treatment program that turned his life around. He went on to obtain his bachelors and masters degrees in social work and has worked for over 30 years with troubled children and adolescents. My Review of The Total Transformation Program How Can The Total Transformation Program Help You and Your Family? Well, we teach by example right! and what James Lehman believes is that because kids really don’t have the skills they need to deal with things and problem solve, then it is likely that they will respond by acting out or yelling. As parents, it is up to us to develop effective parenting skills in order to teach our kids the appropriate skills they need to apply when dealing with or improving their behavior. What Does This Mean? We need to teach our kids to take responsibility for their actions. They need to learn how to solve their problems and not react with inappropriate behavior. Here’s an Example: Say that you’re your daughter gets mad because you won’t let her go over to the neighbors. So she storms off to her room and slams the door. James teaches you to work with your daughter so that she understands that she is responsible for her behavior. She can be mad all she wants. But her behavior is what matters. You will learn how to recognize what the problem really is, and you’ll be equipped to teach your child how to solve it. Once kids can solve their own problems, they have earned their golden keys to a brighter future. Listen to what this mom has to say:
