Why Parents Put Their
Children Up for Adoption

You may wonder, “Why on earth would anyone put their child or children up for adoption?” Logically for the couple or individual there could be one of several reasons as to why they have chosen to not to keep their child.

    Unplanned Pregnancy

    * The mother may be too young, maybe even a minor and is not ready for the responsibility of raising a child.

    * Finances may not be readily available at this time to provide for a child.

    * Having an unplanned pregnancy at this time may interfere with future long-term goals and plans.

    * When there is an “unexpected” pregnancy, many parents will opt for adoption as an alternative to abortion.

    Adoption and Older Children

      * It is less common for parents to put their older children up for adoption, and more likely that they be removed from their parents care due to reported cases of neglect or abuse.

The children are then put in foster care until the parents can get their act together. If they do not, the parents are stripped of their parental rights, the children become wards of the courts/state and the child is then put up for adoption.

*Some parents just cannot take care of their child emotionally or physically, especially if the child is special needs. It may be that the parent also has some form of disability.

There are many children who are in need of a good home regardless of what the reason is that the parent has put their children up for adoption. Whether they are older children, special needs or a baby, they need you!
