Ghana Adoptions

A beautiful country situated in the heart of West Africa. The majority of the people there live in poverty. At least 45% of the people live on less than $1 a day, and approximately 60% of the children in Ghana are involved in child slavery or child labor.

There was a time when the extended family would take in the orphaned children of family members. But today, many of the toddlers and children fend for themselves on the streets.

Children Available for Adoption:

From time to time infant boys and special needs infant girls will come into care. Most often though the children are 2 and older. Many, many are from sibling groups.

Approximate Cost:

Cost will vary starting at $10,500 - $11,500. A portion for the agency costs and a portion for the country costs.

Adoptive Parent Eligibility Requirements:

Married couples may adopt from Ghana. Single women can apply but will need to get special permission form the Social welfare Department. Single men may also be considered but may only adopt a male child

Adoptive parents must be any where from 25-50 years of age and at least 21 years older than the child(ren) being adopted. Families who have 6 children may adopt, but smaller families are preferred. Adoptive parents with health or disabilities issues can adopt but only if your doctor will support your decision. Previous divorce is allowed.

Travel Requirements:

Travel to Ghana is required. You can expect to spend approximately seven days there. At least one adoptive parent must travel for the Visa interview.

Timeline:

It will take about 12 months after your completed dossier arrives in Ghana for the adoption process to be made final in Ghana.
