Kenya Adoption
A Kenya adoption can be lengthy and time-consuming, however, knowing the proper procedures involved can greatly speed up the process.
Children Available: Approximate Costs: Cost will range up to $20,000. Adoptive Parents Eligiblity Requirements: In order to proceed with an adoption from Kenya you must be a married couple of the opposite sex. Gay or lesbian couples, single applicants, nor anyone with any type of offence against children will not be allowed to adopt a child from Kenya. At least one member of the married couple must be 25 years old or more and 21 years older than the child to be adopted. The adoptive child must be registered with a recognized adoption society and be at least 6 weeks old. If the child is over 14 years of age they must consent to the adoption. Travel Requirements: Kenyan law states adoptive parents must live in Kenya for 3 months with the child they wish to adopt. After this time other legal proceedings will take place and will probably take another 3 months. Timeline: It will take all of 6 months to complete the process, the only downside being thatyou will be away from other loved ones for the first 3 months. Although the adoption will be complete, you will still need to submit statusreports (including photos) for the next 5 years. For the first 2 years, the reportsare required quarterly and then semi-annually for the next 3 years. Finally you will need to apply for an immigrant visa for your adopted child.
