Liberia Adoption

In this small country located on the west coast of Africa, children are available for adoption mostly due to the extreme poverty. Although some may have been orphaned during the civil conflicts that plagued the country from 1989 to 2003.

*IMPORTANT NOTE - PROGRAM ON HOLD: On Janurary 28, 2009, a statement released by the Joint Council of International Children's Services. The Liberian government has suspended intercountry adoptions, with the exception of special-needs cases, until new rules and regulations are put into place. It's not yet known how the situation may affect parents already-in-progress. Please check with your adoption agency worker.

Children Available:

Both boys and girls, infants through teens, and sibling groups are available.

Approximate Costs:

From $10,000 to $12,000.

Adoptive Parent Eligibility Requirements:

There are no specific age requirements for adoptive parents. Either married or single people may adopt form Liberia.

Travel Requirements:

Parents may travel and stay in the country for up to 14 days or they may have the child escorted to their country.

Timeline:

It will take from 4 to 6 months to the referral after the completion of the dossier.
