The Pros and Cons of
Transracial Adoptions

As you may well be aware transracial adoptions also known as a transcultural adoption, is the adopting of a child who is coming from another country.

I have made a list of some of the pros and cons of transracial adoption that you may want to know about before you proceed.

    Pros of Transracial Adoptions

*There are not as many Caucasian children who are available for adoption as there are children from other countries who need your care and attention.

*Because there are more children from other countries available to adopt, then you will have more of a choice in terms of age and gender.

*Many children from other countries are often orphaned or even abandoned, so you will have no reason to fear that the birth mother may appear with a change of heart.

*You will learn about your adoptive child's culture with a transracial adoption, and perhaps even travel to their country to meet them.

    Cons of Transracial Adoptions

*You may not be able to get a newborn because when these children go up for adoption, they are often three months to a year old, maybe even more.

*You will probably not know the child's family health history, because most of the information will be either unavailable or lost. However, the child's medical history should be available.

*Adopting a child from another country will require you to expose them to their own culture

*During the process of transracial adoption, there will be extra documentation, such as, dossiers, apostilles and translation services. Making the process more complicated than a local adoption.

*Some countries require certain age ranges, religious affiliations, marital and economic status and even weight range.

*Countries such as Slovakia and Indonesia, require long-term residencies, which can last from one to two years.

Overcoming the hurdle of the adoption process can be challenging in itself, but once you have accomplished that, you will soon be enjoying your life with your new and special child.
